As a dog photographer here in Panama City Beach—and someone who fully expects muddy paws, spontaneous zoomies, and the occasional dramatic flop—I chase connection, personality, and joy. I’ve learned pretty quickly that the best dog photos don’t come from chasing perfection. They come from paying attention to what makes your dog happy and letting that lead the way.
Since starting Captured Moments Pet Photography, I’ve spent a lot of time walking trails, poking around downtown corners, and mentally bookmarking spots that just work for dogs. And while our beaches are incredible, some of the photos that mean the most to my clients didn’t happen on sand at all—they happened next to a mural, beside an old wooden door, or somewhere you’d never think to plan a session, until you see the light hit just right.

What Makes a Location Perfect for Dog Photos?
When pet parents ask me where we should photograph their dog, I usually answer with a question of my own:
What makes your dog light up?
Every dog is different. Some dogs are happiest sprinting through open space with sand between their toes, ears flying, tongues out, having their best beach-day lives. Others are much happier taking their time on a quiet trail, stopping to sniff absolutely everything along the way. Because of that, I don’t choose locations based on what looks impressive—I choose them based on where your dog is most comfortable.
That comfort and joy shows up in every image.
Locations aren’t just backdrops. They’re part of your dog’s story. Where we photograph your dog affects how they move, how relaxed they feel, and ultimately how the images turn out.
Panama City Beach’s Favorite Photo Locations for Dogs
🖼️ Downtown Harrison Avenue Dog Photography Location – Panama City, Florida
Best time to photograph Downtown Harrison Avenue: Mondays at golden hour. Fewer crowds, calmer dogs, and murals that glow in sunset light.
This one usually surprises people, but one of my favorite places to photograph dogs has nothing to do with sand or surf. It’s downtown— sun-warmed brick walls, painted murals, and lots of visual texture.
Downtown Panama City, especially along Harrison Avenue between 4th Street and West Beach Drive, has a creative, lived-in feel that photographs beautifully. Between the old doors, historic buildings, and murals near places like Millie’s, there’s a surprising amount of variety in a small area. There’s even a working fountain near the entrance to McKenzie Park where we can slow things down for quieter portraits.
One of my favorite images from this area is Porsche the Poodle in front of the Visual Arts Center. She wasn’t sitting regally or posing on cue. She was standing tall with her tongue out and a big, happy expression on her face. The mural behind her fit her personality perfectly—bright, playful, and full of energy. No perfect pose required—just a dog being herself in a space that let her personality shine. Downtown proves that the best dog photos don’t come from perfect poses—they come from perfect moments.

🐾 Conservation Park
Best Time to Shoot: Weekday golden hour. Quiet trails, glowing light, happy dogs.
When I’m photographing a dog who’s a little shy or easily overwhelmed, Conservation Park is often where I suggest we start.
Quiet trails, winding boardwalks through the pines, and plenty of open space let sessions move at your dog’s pace — with fewer distractions and less pressure. If your dog needs a moment, we take it. If we need to pivot to a quieter path, we can.
The light through the trees stays soft and even, and the quieter setting helps dogs settle in without feeling overstimulated.

🌊 Dog Beach
Best For: High-energy dogs who love water and running.
Panama City Beach does have a designated dog beach, and for the right dog, it’s an incredible place for photos.
This spot is perfect for dogs who live for movement, water, and wide-open space. Whether your pup loves charging into the waves, chasing a ball along the shoreline, or simply soaking up the salty air, there’s always something happening here.
And then there’s golden hour. Our sunsets melt straight into the Gulf, creating warm backlight, glowing reflections, and stunning silhouettes. Wagging tails against an orange sky? It’s one of my favorite things to photograph.
